Power steering pump squeal and how to change rear brake pads

Postby Alf » Fri Feb 10, 2012 1:25 am

Recently I have changed my Hyundai Coupe power steering pump due to squeeky noises, especially while warming up. The same problem still there, even after changing the steering pump once again. Can anyone help?

Also, I have tried to change the rear brake pads but, cannot open the space to it's full capacity, allowing me to fit the new ones. It doesn't open at all...it seems to be sealed. Can anyone suggest what to do?

welcome, what belts did you use for new power steering pump? even new ones will squeal if not good quality.
As for rear brake, don't force it straight back, screw the piston back, you've got to return the handbrake mechanism too.

There's a brake pad walkthrough in the DIY section, Look at paragraph 8b

Have done both of these thing recently
1st off squeaking belts change the alternator/drive belt give a week to settle after 1st tightening and re tighten i did this mine is now perfect
rear brakes
rear pistons screw back in
you should use a proper tool to do this but it can be done carefully with long nose pliers and or mole grips just be very carefull

I replaced the power steering pump with a second-hand one which I bought from a good Company and, as I was still getting the same problem, they sent me another one but, I'm still having the same problem. I'm not sure what belts they are but, they were replaced with new ones a year ago.

if you changed the pump but not the belt then it could be because you got oil/grease on it at the same time. Are you sure its tensioned correctly?

Also, are you sure its definitely the powersteering belt that's squealing not one of the others?
