Head scratcher!!!!!

Postby Steviehd57 » Sun Sep 13, 2015 8:49 am

Hi people,

Here we have a 54 1.6 Coupe making me lose my hair.
Car has been into a garage with an idle problem, low idle and cutting out. £500 later new lambda sensor temp sensor new idle valve.
Apparently lambda sensor had permanent fault code no EML light, temp sensor reading -40 degree idle valve erratic. Car now idiling better but engine cuts out once it has done a few miles and idle starts to waiver. There appears to be a noise from fuel tank bit like a pop sort of sound.
Car drives perfectly no loss of power or misfire apart from cutting out when it feels like it and then an erratic idle. Turn engine off and you can hear noises from fuel tank.

Anyone got some cream for my head?

Sounds like a fuel pump issue/fuel leak/air entering fuel line.

I wonder if there might be a blocked breather into the fuel tank which is preventing fuel extraction by virtue of not allowing air in to replace it? Do you get any hissing when you remove the filler cap following having problems? Could try driving with the filler cap removed just to see if this helps.
