Gen 3 '04 Full Exhaust system

Postby WebsterC » Tue Oct 06, 2015 10:25 am

Guys,

Recently found my exhaust to be blowing but couldn't find the problem, took it to the local garage and they told me it was blowing at the flex and also at another section therefore the entire system needed to be replaced from the cat back.
Being competent enough to do this fix myself I went to order the parts form my local supplier to be greeted with the question: "do you need a flex pipe with a cat in it" now I know the cat on mine is at the front but there is a box underneath the car however I cannot be positive if it's a cat or just the center silencer box, I have ordered the parts (Downpipe/flex, Centre silencer and Y section) and I do intend to have a look to see if they appear similar (I cannot take the exhaust off yet as it still needs to travel to collect the parts etc)
What are the chances mine will have a cat on the flex pipe?

Cheers,

What engine size is it? I have an 03 2.0 and my exhaust system is manifold-->Cat converter--> downpipe-->flex-->centre pipe--> backbox. I don't have a centre silencer because it's a custom stainless job, but as far as the 1.6 and 2.0 goes, you have 1 Cat-converter straight after the manifold.

Also, this site is a godsend.

Yep, only cat converter is at the manifold then. :)

Sweet, thanks for the quick reply, was just a bit nervy that I'd ordered a full cat back system with the possibility of the main emission control unit being wrong!
