Engine fault code P0340 after timing belt teeth stripped

Postby BlueHyundai » Tue May 23, 2017 10:22 pm

Car: Hyundai Coupe 2009 1.6l petrol dohc 105bhp 67,000 miles

I parked up my car only to find it would not turn over after. Checked the timing belt which revealed many teeth stripped off the belt. 4 sensor fault codes came up when scanned, the main one that stood out was P0340 fault code (camshaft sensor position circuit malfunction).

I replaced the old timing belt, cleared the code and my car started fine with no odd noises, everything sounded normal so I don't think any damage had been down to the pistons or valves luckily.

A few mile down the road the check engine light came back on. When scanned it was the same P0340 code.

I replaced the camshaft sensor with a new one to rule out this as the cheapest option.

Can you someone please advise me on the matter.
