Gen 2 Coupe not starting

Postby haydncook » Fri Sep 26, 2014 8:22 pm

Help! I've got a 2001 RD Coupe - starter motor turns but car won't start. Happened out of the blue - it's normally used regularly. Local mechanic says pump not working nor spark. Electrics generally seem to be working, alarm (flashers and sound), dashboard warning lights, indicators etc. I've got a obd11 scanner, saying MIL off and 'no modules' (ISO 9142 protocol).
Any advice appreciated! Thanks, Haydn

Manually check for a spark. Pull one, and have someone crank the engine while you hold the plug (by it's HT lead) with it's threads resting against the cylinder head.

If you don't have a spark it could be the crankshaft sensor that needs replacing. It is located on the front of the engine. I had the same problem on monday when my car would turn over but not start

Thank you, I'd wondered if that might be the fault. Will give it a try! Thanks, Haydn

PS does anyone know if it's reasonable to hope to get fault codes?

Bit of a lottery TBH. I sold a d900 code reader to Kieran as it worked on his gen2 turbo...
