Advice before buying + common faults

Postby revelsum » Mon Feb 27, 2017 10:32 pm

Hello all. Firstly, I currently own an old generation 6 Toyota Celica, very reliable but rust and age is getting the best of these cars. I am put off by the newer shape due to reliability issues (oil consumption). My next choice of car is the Hyundai Coupe (04/05 plate), I am looking at the 1.6, 2.0 SE.

1) Oil consumption, is there a problem with this, are you guys having to top up before oil changes?

2) The immobiliser faults - can second hand ECU's/transponders be picked up easily and swapped over if I ran into this fault. What do you guys generally do about this fault? The £700 bill is something I wish to avoid.

3) Choosing between a 1.6 and 2.0. If this is anything like the Toyota Celica 2.0 and Toyota Celica 1.8, I honestly didn't see much difference apart from the 2.0 weighing a lot more (and when doing 7000rpm, some valve kicks in). Is the 1.6 cheaper in parts? Is it still nippy? Or will I be missing out not buying a 2.0?

4) How are these cars holding up with rust? Are they sealed from factory?

Thank you in advance
