Intermittent electrical fault

Postby Drew » Sat Dec 28, 2013 1:34 pm

i have just bought a Coupe, Gen 3 I think, 2.0 SE VRM BX02MFE.
The car has an annoying electrical fault........
When started from cold, there is no power to the remote central locking, the dash display, the rear lights, the internal lights, the rear screeen heater. There may be others, but its enough to get on with.
Things like the heater, headlights, brakelights and aircon still work.
When the car has been driven for about 5-10 minutes, the seatbelt light flashes and the dash lights come on. A few minutes aafter that the rear screeen heater works, and everything appears normal.
Its like something is having to warm up before letting power through.
Has anyone ever come across this problem before, or has any idea as what the solution might be before i have to take it to an auto electrician ? The cost of diagnosing the fault may well be as much as I paid for the car in the first place.

My car had problems it would'nt start in the cold, the headlights would'nt work & the dash lights would flicker on/off.

In my case it was the BCM that was faulty. Now its been replaced my car is all good.

Yes I was thinking BCM :-( Was it from a dealer? or if private may have been the reason they sold it, bit of a sod but sortable :-)

I managed to get it sorted as I was lucky & found a brand new unused BCM on Ebay. Before I got it sorted I was thinking of cutting my losses as the car was unuseable in the cold weather.

As funny as it sounds I once used a hair dryer in the snow to get the car started, as when the BCM under the dash was warmed up the car would run ok.
