Hi all, ive always wanted to go on a massive road trip and i've finally pulled my finger out and decided to go for it because i have some time off work in May. I'm planning a road trip through france starting at:

Calais
Dunkirk
Reims
Dijon
Grenoble
Cannes
Monaco
Geneva
Versailles
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage
Calais

This is a very long drive that i'm sure will have serious ups and downs! I've done some research and this seems to be a good route from what people have said on piston heads. I've planned a rough route on google maps but i think a lot of it depends on how much you want to drive when your there because i've tried to avoid motorways as much as possible. The dates will be 17th of my until the 26th of may. All together its about 1800 miles but you can always take miles off or add some if its really fun! i've tried to arrive at monaco after the GP to avoid massive congestion (i would love to watch the GP but there are no hotels and it costs a fortune!) I'm hoping to do this trip with my brother but i just thought i'd mention it on here to see if anyone was interested in something thats sure to be an epic trip! so if you can get time off work and love driving your coupe then let me know and we can really get the club out there!!

oh i forgot to say guys i'm going to get a ferry from dover to calais prices are around £35 so its cheap, im going to take a tent and depending on the weather just stay in a hotel every so often to save money, so the only real cost will be fuel!

great idea andy were thinking of doing the same in july for 3 weeks hopefully going to rome via south of france and coming back over the alps then finishing with a weekend in amsterdam
I look forward to hearing all about your road trip and sound like you will have to post a diary as you go

calais............im gonna puke.go to pidou for cheap wine right next to port on industrial estate.rest sounds good aside from dunkirk

Hi, yeah i know the first leg of the journey is abit naff but alot of people have said you need to just get that bit out of the way and then the rest is really great driving so not got much choice really. plus the ferry is so cheap to calais so...

The roads in France are fabulous you can go for miles and not see another car plus even the smallest village will have a decent garage in case of repairs.Le touquet is a nice stop.Had lunch there a few times.Pay a visit to an Auchen hypermarket,it has a robin symbol,the French use these shops.Wine from 75p a bottle when we were there last only a couple of years ago.Watch out for the asylum seekers when returning to Calais for the ferry.As we were queing they were breaking into the lorries in front of us and running along the dual carriage way,quite frightening really.

Hi, god that sounds mad I'll look out for that!! Everything is all packed up and were just about to leave! Can't wait to get there now! The car is packed, almost on the arches haha I'll take lots of pics and upload them on the forum when i get back!
