Dash wrap

Postby Rock Ape » Fri May 13, 2011 9:18 pm

Has anyone ever had their entire [or partial] dash wrapped in carbon fiber ? [or any wrap for that matter]

What's the feasibility of doing such a wrap considering the number of curves/lines involved, I'm presuming there'd have to be a number of pieces involved to cover it all.

What sort of cost would we be talking about ?

I've considered it, was thinking about having the main console in my Gen1 done in leather, the bit most people paint some OTT colour lol. Been meaning to ask Mr Dupe about it :D

You do not want to be wrapping the passenger air bag.

Or paint it all the colour of the car to follow the same colour schemes throughout

Nah, Not my thing :) Looks quite tacky, and seen it done in the usual saxo/corsa/crap mobile. Can't see the attraction in it personally. Interiors should be comfy, not vivid :)

Edit:
On another note, just watched that vid. Looks awesome :D

doesnt have to be vivid colours mate.

A silver car with a silver dash

Dark blue car with a dark blue dash.

It can look nice when done properly, or you get people that spray it colours that make it stand out (we've had white dashboards and neon orange dashboards on here). It is all down to what you prefer.

Mine is now half done (sat in the shed awaiting the car back so i can complete it) in the same colour as my car with black and carbon fibre subtle tones, not too in your face at all

was planning on having my whole dash wrapped in CF vinyl but decided against it as all the shops i've approached didn't want to risk doing a crap job with all the difficult curves of the dashboard.

i opted to have all the plastic bits painted in matte black instead (i have a gen1 btw). it came out pretty good actually. plus, i was able to have bits and pieces of the shifter, drink holder and ashtray wrapped with free (scrap hehe) CF from the shop.

The matte black really felt good to the touch. it got rid of that cheap plastic feel the gen1 dashboard has. wish i had a better pic coz you really can't appreciate the finish of the matte black paint without actually seeing the dashboard in the "flesh".

here's a pic from my build thread:

just dont spray it yourself unless you are competent. I think CF dash would look well decent

I would think a vinyl wrap is possible, but use a good quality material (I recomend hexis) and use a heat gun and a lazer thermometer to make sure it all goes well...

not really a job for a novice
