Colour choosing - Help!

Postby moggy1000 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 5:57 pm

Hi,
I currently have a Gen1 (arriving Saturday) which is totally standard. I am thinking of a couple of changes and cant for the life of me decide what colours!:
-Calipers - the car is straight red so not sure if painting the calipers red would look OK or no different. If not what colour should I go for?
-Alloys - looking at getting them sprayed black but not sure what they'd look like considering they are stock alloys (can't remember what size) and the car isn't lowered as id like.

Some pics of peeps' would be awesome!

i think black alloys on a red car with red calipers would look rather nice :)

I'll be honest.

I'm not a fan of the Red/black look!
here is a pic of a gen2 with the colour scheme

What i think will look better, and what i planned to do (before i bought some 17's) but may still do. is this

Sprayed black wheels don't look good on anything tbh.

Red Calipers will look good, although the look has been done many times.

If you have rear drums and paint them any other colour than black a man with a big hat will appear and hit you in the face with a pipe wrench three times then disappear.

Already mentioned but
White Wheels on a Red car.
Drum Brakes Black
Caliper can do red, but popular. Other colours don't really suit the red car. Maybe Black to be diff?

Bright white wheels, to me at least, scream chav. Slightly off white looks a lot better!

I think you have to have the right wheels to pull off the red/black combo. The standard ones IMO, are not the right ones for black.

Black looks good but not on red cars, thats decided - thanks!
I have discs all round, no drums. I might paint them black and see what they look like. I've always wanted the red calipers but theyll just blend on the red car XD

Not perfect, but gives you an idea of what Red Calipers on a red car look like.

This will be me when I put a big hat on. Have a pipe wrench specifically for such events.

IMO black wheels are fine on red car if they are aftermarket..... Standard wheels sprayed black look awful, also i agree white wheels do look chavish depending on colour of the car :|

Try Gunmetal grey that would look good :D

As mentioned, it depends on the style of the wheels on the car. If it's the later Gen1 with the optional straight 5 spoke alloys (Linked below), then get them done black/gunmetal. If they're the standard alloys with the slightly curved spokes, personally, I'd look at replacing them.

There're the wheels I'm referring to. I think they'd look great in black! Ebay Item:110821315516

They are the alloys I have. Gunmetal grey sounds interesting. Any photos at all, my concern is they would look dirty?

That is a floor or them... i have grey alloys with a red lip and the grey matches the car colour so looks great but clean or dirty the car always looks the same colour which is a bonus.

I don't know if it's helpful, but if you look up Eggcatcher's project diary, he's got those wheels, painted black? Might give you a rough idea how they'd look? :)
