Oil and filter change £130!!! Seriously? Gen 3 2.0 l

Postby HC2010 » Mon Feb 13, 2012 10:47 pm

Been quoted £130 for an oil and filter change on a Gen 3 2.0 l

Off the top of my head it seems a bit steep!!!

Or does this seem ok??

Can anyone recommend a good garage in the Durham area?

Filter = £5
Oil = £13-30

time - 30 mins

Do you have a jack, axel stands, socket set and a screwdriver? D.I.Y!

I used to do my own oil changes on my motorbike but I don't have axles stands and not confident with a jack to be honest.

It's only done 2k miles since the last service and MOT so this year it's just MOT and OC.

For next year I'll see if my son in law can help me with axle stands when I just want an OC.

Well... You say that's robbery, but I've just got a quote for £265 + VAT for a oil/filter/spark plug change on mine hah!

Just found the receipt from the MOT and OC had 2 years ago - due to low mileage i alternate each year between an MOT with Service and MOT with OC.

Less than £40 inc VAT and labour once i deducted the cost of the MOT.....!!!

£130??? Definately shopping around now....

if the last one was just an oil change - is this one due?

Coolant, brake fluid, plugs, air filter etc etc

National tyres want £30 for an oil (semi synth, don't get full synth) and filter change. I do my own (buy oil 20L at a time from costco since theres 2 cars every 5k and a bike every 3 to do) but they do my dads and seem to use decent filters (iirc blueprint) I asked and they told me they'd be happy to use an OEM part if you supplied it (I just paid £9.08 for one from Hyundai dealer).

Absolute most I'd be paying with pattern parts is £45. TO be honest, national are also doing mots for £35 if you book online, and although I'd never get any actual work done there you can't go wrong with that if you're confident in a pass.

Glad you got it sorted mate, cant believe where some of theses garages get there prices, I for one would never trust a garage that would charge me silly money like a £130 for a simple oil change....!!!

That's very cheap. Thing is each oil is different, just because the grade matches, doeesnt mean to say it meets the manufacturers specs.

That's too cheap. Are you sure they aren't putting wet soil in your engine?
