Auto problem!

Postby AussieJohn » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:54 pm

Are there any auto gurus out there? I have a 2006 model, under hard acceleration it bangs when changing from 2nd to 3rd. Was a bit low on fluid which helped a bit when topped up. Do these transmissions have bands to adjust? Any help welcome.

Over the years every single autobox problem I've seen has been because of incorrect levels or overdue changes

I am pinning my hopes on an oil change, is there a drain plug or do I remove the side panel? how much oil for a change? I guess some oil stays in the torque converter.

Changed the oil ; the problem is now very bad. I'm having a low mileage auto box put in this week so hopefully then OK. Do these cars have auto problems regularly? if so I will sell up and buy a manual; advice please guys, cheers, John.

Sorry to hear that mate. The Hyundai autobox is not noramlly a problem if well looked after with regular changes etc - I have been involved with Hyundai since 2007, and the only problems have been from incorrect levels and dirty fluids.

Had it plugged in; no faults showing but still faulty. They suggested that I change both input and output sensors but as these are both different ones that were with the new box then it may be a longshot; any thoughts "auto gurus"?

It'll be a sensor fault then, somewhere - I'll do some internet searching in the morning and see what I can turn up... ;)

Thanks nmemonic, the dealer said a modified end case with a different O ring setup could be a cure but other dealers had noted it didn't work for them. An auto transmission rebuilder in Scotland [ who is now the official Hyundai auto box rebuilder ] couldn't see how the different end case could affect this problem, it seems a can of worms with no definate answer. I am going to clean all the wiring plugs/sockets to the sensors today as the man who changed the box said he noted some corrosion on some bits [ would have been a lot easier if he had rung me while the box was out! ] cheers, John.

Been to see Ross at Tiburon Automotive, what a helpful and knowledgeable bloke, he traced my fault to a solenoid not operating correctly, I've just got to figure out why, the main dealer is not on the same level as Tiburon, cheers, John.
