White specks from polish

Postby halsall1987 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 7:03 pm

After I was my car, usually fortnightly, on the sides of the car are loads of white specks which I can only assume come from the polish. I can't get it off and I tried not polishing it this time but it's still there.

Any tips on how to get rid, keep rid and possibly a decent clear wax/polish for black paintwork.

Also a decent product to revive my laquer after a massive bird shat on my bonnet :x

Could it be polish sitting in pin pricks in the lacquer coat.

Use a hard clay to get rid of these specks - try cleanyourcar.co.uk. Lubricate the clay bar and surface, then rub over the polish spots.

As for the problem in the first place, try spraying some water onto the cloth or pad you use to polish and only apply very small amounts of polish. Very, very small amounts. If it's a liquid polish which it probably is, then give the bottle a good shake. Hope that helps.

I had this issue on an old BMW, it was wax building up in stone chips etc. Granted i only waxed the car once but it went eventually lol

Yeah, a clay will do it. But - dependant on your polish/wax - the white flecks will come back again. And you don't wanna be claying your car all that regularly.

There are two practical solutions really.

1) Learn how to fill in your stone chips, see the link for information
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/s ... hp?t=20127
I'll admit, it takes a brave man to take sandpaper to his own bodywork.

2) Use a 'paint restorer' rather than a polish, and then a coloured wax on top of that.
You don't have to spend a lot of money - you can go to halfords and buy such. I use to use a blue Siminoz colour restorer on my old corsa and it came up an absolute treat. Coloured waxes are a bit harder to come by; the best I think is Dodo Juice - gives a fantastic shine. To the point whereby I don't even need to polish my car. It's expensive at £30 a pot though, but you wont find better quality stuff.
T Cut is most definitely not a paint restorer, as I'm sure you're probably aware.

Avoid Zymol products at all costs. They give good results, but I've never seen more white specks this side of a blizzard.

Thanks for the advice Loque, and I'm not a brave man so sandpaper will not be going anywhere near my paintwork!

I'll give #2 a try when the weather sorts it's life out.

Right get some washig up liquid & put to water. Give it a good clean around the area with white specks (washing up liquid will strip the wax off). Then dry & go over it with colour wax (your cars colour). white specks gone JOB DONE.

As far as any patches on your paint from bird crap, then use a bit of G3 compound. But be careful, only use a lint free soft cloth & don't rub area hard

Ferecla G3 compound. A lot of body shops use it to cut the paintwork back a very small amount. It's not a wax/polish in anyway, it's actually an abrasive. As long as you use it right it can't revitalise your paintwork by cutting back the layer of paint that's gone bad, dull, lightly scratched. You can get G3 from some high street car parts, but manly from body shop suppliers.
You must alway use a damp soft lint free cloth & put a bit of G3 compound on a small area of the panel at a time. Using circular motions work into the panel & maybe add a little more G3 at a time. When it starts to dry, spray some water onto service & keep using circular motions. DO NOT RUB HARD, SEMI FIRM PRESSURE WILL DO & DONT USE STUPID AMOUNTS OF G3
Keep working & using different parts of the cloth, then use dry soft cloth. G3 isn't a wax so don't leave to haze & wipe of.
Once done then clean & wax

Tought i would treat an area of the wing & bonnet with Ferecla G3 just to show the result. Problem is i got a really fresh patch of shiny paint on the bonnet, got to do the rest.

Look at the shine & not a bit of polish/wax. Just raw new layer of paint.

Fereclla G3 is expensive, about 20-25 quid a tub (1LTR). I got a spare full new tub if anyone interested. 9 quid should do it
