what is the best spray paint to use for spraying the engine bay parts, like the engine cover etc..

For the plastic bits? I used HyCote acrylics, the plastic primer and gloss top coat. Never bothered with laquer. Make sure you prep the hell out of it - it has to be scrupulously degreased, clean and dry, or it will look crap. Degrease then wash with Fairy liquid. Dry then key surface with OOgauge wirewool. Clean dust off with Meths-soaked rag, allow to air dry then spray as normal. Thats what I did, after cocking it up the first time - no peeling after 30K miles.

Good on yer! Should add that spraying should be done somewhere relatively warm and ventilated - I was OK in my garage as it was summer, but if you get the snow that might drift in then might be a no-go unless you can get somewhere warm.

i'll bear that in mind, maybe do it in the workshop at work.
also, what colors look good? was gonna do red but i'm thinking it might look a bit tacky :\

Colour-coded it to your car, whatever shade that is - always looks smart, IMHO. Don't go overboard, thats what looks tacky ;)
