Take it back and show them the scratches before you do anything, then complain.

Thast's what I'd do at least.

If there fine scratches use some polish and try polishing them out, if that doesnt help try t-cut and polishing it.
Hope this helps :)

Cheers,

I have thought about going back, but don't think they'll do anything, even I get them to admit it.

Will pick up some autoglym super resin polish, if no joy then the paint renovator!

If these people you took the car too are professionals, they'll have insurance to cover this sort of thing, whilst getting them to admit liability won't be an easy thing, one aspect you have in your favour is that your car is new to you.

I'd be telling them the dealer/previous owner is willing to provide proof the car wasn't scratched when you picked it up and, given the short time you've had it, it's unlikely those scratches were caused by you. Additionally, I'd be asking the valeting people why they didn't draw your attention to the scratches at the point where you picked the car up, if they had nothing to hide, there'd be no reason for them not to point them out to you.

You've got nothing to loose by challenging them.

If you took your car to a hand car wash then forget 9 times out of 10 they won't do anything, if you went to a car wash like Arc then they should sort it out for you as its there fault and there all covered by insurance

I don't know a great deal about cleaning products - but I always fear t-cut and similar products would ruin the original paint work? am I paranoid!?

t-cut works wonders, it wont ruin the paint, just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong :)

na no need to be worried about it if its only a light scratch it will only take a few seconds to clear up if its deep it will take a bit longer, but it really dose work wonders!!

Hi again,

ok, stupid question alert time...

I bought auto glym 'super resin polish' tried that and it didn't seem to do anything - then, I tried auto glym 'paint renovator', which seemed to 'fade' some of the lighter scratches but not do alot to the others - now maybe I am not rubbing it long enough - so the silly question is how long should I be rubbing the cream in before buffing it off? (that whole sentence sounds slightly dodgy!)

the car does look niiiice now I have polished it all up though! :)

hmmmm yeah they wouldnt do much you really need to get t-cut that would do it no problem,
generally you rub it in until it drys to a haze, leave it for a few mins and buff it off,
the light scratches really you should see a difference after about 30 seconds to a min of rubbing in the t-cut

Oh did it?

Was you rubbing quite hard, and for a while?

see the scratches don't feel deep atall, as in I can hardly feel it with my finger nail - but don't seem to shift with this paint renovator stuff - worried if I keep trying i'll have no paint left!

Hmm. I've acquired myself some scratching on my bonnet. I have some Auto Glym Paint Renovator in the garage, I'll have a crack with it.

For scratches I am using 1Z products. first I apply 1Z yellow cream (its thicker and does most of the job) and rub slightly in circular movements with a cotton cloth and then I apply 1Z green cream (more like polishing and protecting) and first time I used them I was amazed by the result!!

What are you using to put the polish on with, micro fibre? old sock?
Super Resin polish is could but it has silicone fillers in it so will mask some scratches but obviously next time you wash it will appear again.
Your really going to struggle to remove scratches totally by hand
