You'll find that everyone has got different opinion on what gets the best job done.
Personally I use autoglym and megs stuff.

If you need more info have a look at :

detailing-cleaning-f206/best-polish-t8879.html

And

detailing-cleaning-f206/polish-wash-suggestions-t8581.html

Those 2 threads show you which products most people use and also how they get on about doing it.

Normally this is what I do:

Wash
Dry
Clay bar
Wash
Dry
Paint cleaner
Polish
Wax
Quick detail for extra sparkle

Foam - Autobrite magifoam is by far the best snowfoam by a mile, i've tried a fair few and this one just works 10x better than the likes of megs hyperwash (just use it as a shampoo in a bucket now i've the magifoam).

Glaze - poorboys blackhole works really well on my blue coupe can't fault it.

Polish - depends what you want and if you're doing it by hand or machine, something like autoglyms super resin polish is great and can be used both ways.
Personally i like using dodo juice limeprime lite and then the poor boys black hole after it, both are non-abrasive so no risk of you damaging the paint.

Wax -- you get what you pay for, and you can pay insane amounts, i like the dodo juice blue velvet or valentines road and track wax, both work really well, they're hard waxs so last longer than the paste/liquid types.
if i'm in a rush or just topping up the wax i'll use auto glym aqua wax or poorboys nattys paste blue.

I'm no detailer like, but all above are easy enough for me to use and don't take tons of effort, that poorboys blackhole stuff is amazing though.

I'll throw my opinion in

Polish - AutoGlym Super Resin

Wax - Megs Ultimate Liquid or Paste Wax. I go for liquid to use on the buffer.

Havn't tried AutoGlyms clay bar kit yet but may give it a go in the show season :)

to get the best shine and gloss its all in the prep of the paint
i detail cars ,hers mine
post86427.html#p86427
first off run an opened hose over the car to get rid of big bits
dont use the jet wash just yet,no point blasting grit etc all over the car
i then go around all the badges,door shuts,grille,window seals,wipers ,handles ,lights,side indicators
i do this with a soft detailing brush and a mixture of apc(all purpose cleaner) diluted to 10:1
i jet wash all the dust from the calipers, and soak the wheels in a wheel cleaner
if needed i agitate the dirt off with specialist wheel brushes, rinse the wheels off
then i soak the car in snowfoam, this is like a shaving cream thickness cleaner
this breaks down all the dirt,at this point i have still not touched the car, this lessens the swirls that you see
after the foam has been allowed to dwell for approx 8/10 mins i then jet wash it off
now i get my buckets ready for washing, one wheel only bucket, one bucket with my shampoo in and one with clean water only
both these buckets have grit guards in,these trap the grit.etc and stop it getting back on my wash mitt
wash the wheels
then i wash the bodywork ,one panel at a time, then clean the wash mitt in the clean water, then clean next panel and again rinse the mitt,do this to the whole car, when you have done the whole car look at the rinse bucket it will be dirty
now if you use the one bucket the dirt that is in your mitt goes back into the shampoo bucket and back onto the car,you are now putting dirt back on the car!!
after rinsing i dry with soft drying towels
then if the car needs it i clay the car(i would then re-wash the car) this is just the wash process
then you need to polish the car, either by hand or by a machine
this is where the types of polish differ, and there are hundreds to choose from
after polishing you then can wax or use a sealant on the car to protect all your hard work

Might as well throw some pictures in as well. This was in July 2011 when I had used the mentioned polish + wax on my SIII. Clay, Polish, Wax + Sealant, and all done by hand (before I got a machine polisher)
