Getting dust off car

Postby gareth25 » Wed Apr 27, 2011 12:02 am

Hay guys dont know if any one else has this happen but... Spent all day cleaning, polishing and waxing the coup only for a bloody dust storm to blow in over night and ruin my work. Have tried just sprinkling the car but leaves drip marks and rubbing with a chamois leather / micro cloth seems to take some of the wax away. Any one know any other way to get rid orf the dust with out re-washing?

Nothing you can do except wash it again or leave it in the garage. It's all the pollen in the air that gets stuck to the car, and shows up fantastically on a black car.

On another note, why the hell don't people realise that writing in the dust / pollen scratches the paintwork?

I know right! The secretary drew a big smiley face on my roof today. If she wasn't fine I'd have had serious issues.

You don't really wanna wash your car more than once a week. Top marks for enthusiasm though!

You say "hard wax", how does differ from liquid? Or is it just preference? I thought it was just a case of looking for wax with caruba wax in it.

Yes and no.

Hard wax just means it stays on longer. generally liquid waxes are easy to apply and won't last too long. Soft waxes thus are easier to apply but have reduced lifespan.

You can get carnuaba waxes like the Zymol/Dodo Juice range and synthetic waxes which is more what you get in bottles rather than tubs. Synthetic waxes don't tend to last as long. So you're better off going for a carnuaba wax. These waxes help increase the shine and gloss and protection.

I use the hard wax Blue Velvet on my blue Coupe and it has great results. So much better than my Meguiars tech wax. It doesn't have nearly the same effect on my friend's light-coloured Yaris, though, as it's designed for more solid colours. I would recommend trying the Dodo Juice range, there's something for every type of car there.
