I was skitter-bombed the other day. All over the car

Yes and no.
Hard wax just means it stays on longer. generally liquid waxes are easy to apply and won't last too long. Soft waxes thus are easier to apply but have reduced lifespan.
You can get carnuaba waxes like the Zymol/Dodo Juice range and synthetic waxes which is more what you get in bottles rather than tubs. Synthetic waxes don't tend to last as long. So you're better off going for a carnuaba wax. These waxes help increase the shine and gloss and protection.
I use the hard wax Blue Velvet on my blue Coupe and it has great results. So much better than my Meguiars tech wax. It doesn't have nearly the same effect on my friend's light-coloured Yaris, though, as it's designed for more solid colours. I would recommend trying the Dodo Juice range, there's something for every type of car there.
