Extremely thin paint on black Coupe 06 Model?

Postby Mr Tuscan » Sun Sep 11, 2011 4:03 pm

It would seem it is very very easy to scratch through to white with my coupé.

After washing my car I usually use a microfibre cloth to dry off with, but today I noticed several scratches on the bonnet and wings which show white colour beneath.

A couple of weeks ago , I was drying the car and a nail of mine scraped the bonnet and that left a scratch showing white paint too, surely this is not normal.

What would you suggest to stop this, a very good thick waxing?

Is this possibly a symptom of perhaps too many t cuts over the years?

You can say that again, since my last t cut last September when this threads was started my car is now covered in scratches, it looks awful so it is time to Tcut/polish again and hopefully most of the damage will go away, I am going to give it a good wax afterwards and hope that that will create a barrier to a point.

Bloody awful I tell thee.

NOOOOOOOO Don't T Cut it, you'll only make it worse (Tcut takes paint off) a less abrasive polish, some black hole and a good wax should get the worst of it off without getting 'highlights' on the ridges and stuff.

You need this Gtechniq P1 Nanocomposite Polish not T-Cut

I would suggest getting some DFT readings before you do anything. Any decent bodyshop will have a DFT meter, at least then you know what you are working with.
I wouldn't go near it with any sort of compound without having an idea how much paint is on it.
