Engine Bay Clean

Postby Madkink » Sat Nov 27, 2010 8:08 pm

What is the best way to go about this?

I have had someone say 'cover the electrics and get in there with a jet wash' and another saying not to do that,

so just wanting to know what is the best way to do it,

that is a way, but obviously there's plenty to go wrong.. personally I would get in there with a brush and an engine cleaner.

afew cloths & some engine degreaser, much safer than throwing water around your induction and electrics.

As I haven't done any mods to the engine bay yet its not a priority, and I'm a fair weather modder.

steaming is preferred as the jets arent as harsh - do NOT use a high pressure washer - it can be very dodgy, and blast of sensors etc

Is a decent valet company likely to do this?

No. That's quite unlikely.

A mate of mine, took his up on a forklift truck and jetwashed it form underneath...

I remember walking into his warehouse thinking... Why is that 3 Series on a forklift... Then promptly falling over with laughter.

Why is it unlikely? At work we have a mobile car cleaner man that does it, I believe that's how dodge gets his so good

I think he meant would a Valeter use a hose.

Elbow grease and patience.

keep any brake fluids away from your paintwork else itl just strip the paint.

a steam clean is good so long as you get someone that knows what they are doing, steam is still water and it can still get in places where you really dont want it
