Cleaning contrast stitching on leather seats

Postby Richter » Wed Dec 28, 2011 1:16 pm

Hi all,

My Siii has white stitching on the black leather seats, and it seems the previous owner didn't take much care in keeping it clean! I've cleaned and fed the leather, which has come up a treat, but the drivers side contrast stitching is very dull compared to all other seats.

Is there anything I can use to clean only the stitching, while leaving the leather alone? I was wondering if a regular upholstry cleaner, applied only to the stitched area and wiped off the leather afterwards, would do the trick? Just don't want to damage the leather...

Thanks :D

Yeah, I can't think of anything that will actually do it. Black/Red stitching is a nightmare.

Haha, fair. I dunno, my car has black on black everything. I don't think they'd invented different colour stitching in leather when my car was produced. Only just got over the fact that wheels shouldn't be square.

:( Seems my best bet is a reupholstering job. I think I'll learn to live with it for now, though I might try a spot of upholstery cleaner on a small hidden part to see if it can bring up the white without affecting the leather... Sounds unlikely though, from your comments and what I've read elsewhere it seems like it's just something I have to put up with! Shame, as the leather has really come up a treat now it's being looked after :D

It's not worth reupholstering just to change stitching

No, I don't want to spend that kind of money on something so insignificant :D I just mean that's probably the only way I could actually get the stitching back to how it originally was. Such is life :)
