Badge removal

Postby molovin » Fri Nov 18, 2011 6:13 pm

Hey guys,

after removing my badges i realised they left the black foam on the body work.

If anyone is doing this get yourself a heatgun/hair dryer helps so much.
Even still get yourself some Sticky Stuff Remover from halford or anywere like that. Saved me hours scrapping away at the foam.Gay.

Reading back this is a pointless post lol

Warm water and an old blunt credit card was what I used. Once u get under the edge it will just pull off but the more foam you can pull off with the badge saves you the hassle of removing it from the paintwork as the OP has already found out :D

I found white spirit and a soft cloth very effective at removing the foam

Boiling water just trickled over the badge area then? I'm conscious of scratching the paintwork as I take it off which would cause me to have a major breakdown :)

yeah, be gentle and you won't scratch anything that won't polish out. If your fitting Tuscani badges they are bigger than the 'H' badge anyway

Hair dryer for about 15 seconds then ethier fishing wire or floss and use ur fingers even. I got Sticky Stuff Remover from B&Q for £1.5 for a small bottle. once the badge is off rub the foam with this solution and it liturally peels off. cant fault the stuff

Decent monofilament fishing line works well too, just slide under the badge and use a sawing action. Then petrol* to remove the glue.

Anyone performing this may find there are a couple of pegs on the back of the badge. These need to be worked around carefully, don't be thinking you can just go left to right or you could be there for some time!

* Other solvents are available, but I live dangerously

I bought some Sticky Stuff remover for £1.50 does the same thing. dab it on leave for five mins and it the adhesive comes off itself. Does the front badge have the pegs aswell?

Water, cloth, credit card and polish and lots of elbow grease and save yourself some money and don't expect to be done in ten minutes.

It is all I used and perfect job, but then it was a sunny day and I took my time enjoying the sun.

Yeah, just looking at losing the Hyundai Coupe badge - not fussed about the Tuscani badges so will keep the 'H' badges on there

I'm with Dupes on the boiling water!

I removed all Three badges on mine no problem this way. I poured it on a few times and left it for a bit to let it melt the glue which helped. Then used a credit card covered in a cloth, this not only removes the badge but I rubbed the foam off at the same time!

Got the remaining foam off with white spirit and a ruff cloth to start and then T-Cut/Scratch remover. Had/Still have a bit of shadow but have been T-Cutting/polishing this bit every couple of weeks and it's nearly mint now!

Never have liked the way they've put the badges on, just looks a bit one sided! Must agree with the some of the comments above that it's not a 5 minute job!
