Advice sought - Foam machine polishing pads

Postby Spankem » Tue Jan 24, 2012 8:46 pm

Hi all
I`m after some advice

Now the advice I`m after is storage and cleaning of Machine Polishing pads as the last time I used some, 2 of them had gone rock hard and the other 2 were all mildewy and hardish after I took them out of storage after a few months , so I had to buy new ones

So do I clean the new ones or leave them as they are ???????

can anyone advise me as to how I would clean these or what the prefered methiod is and the best way of storing them

Thanks in advance for any advice given :)

Hi I always spray them with Daisy kitchen cleaner (49p in Tesco) and work it in then give a good WARM rinse in water and repeat until water runs clear. I then let them dry indoors and then give a light spray with detailing spray and put in a polythene bag to store.

Hope this helps.

I'd make damn sure to rinse all of that kitchen cleaner out when you actually use them mind. You wouldn't want that on your paintwork.

Clean them after use. Use fairy liquid if you must, but again, ensure that anything that nasty is fully washed out before you use them on your car.

I did say "rinse in water and repeat until water runs clear"

Meguiar's recommends,
* Tapping them when they are dry to knock loose any dried product
* Holding an absorbent terry cloth towel into them when they are wet to absorb excess product out of them.
* Storing them wet in a zip-lock bag for re-use later
* Turning the polisher on while holding the foam pad against an absorbent cotton terry cloth towel to transfer excess product into the towel
* Brushing dried, excess product from the face of the pad using a nylon bristle brush, like a toothbrush for example.
