Okay To Mount Tweeter Here? Components Opinion

Postby breezer » Fri Jun 04, 2010 7:05 pm

Just took my door card off to see if it would be possible, and i think it would be.

Right below where the wing mirror adjuster would be, on the flat bit facing upwards. Id drill a small hole and the tweeter should sit flush.

What is your opinion?

And instead of splashing out on an amp/sub/6x9 package, i listened to others and have decided to get some 2 way components first. Was looking at infinity reference ones, but ive heard in the past that the kappas are way better so think im going to go for them:

Again, opinions?

I have kappas in mine and can't fault them. I get a nice tidy sound from them just running from the headunit. Not sure about placing the tweeters there to be honest. Suppose its down to preference and how much messing around you want to do. I would personally mount them in the covers in the corners by the windscreen. Though if your a dab hand at fibre glass and filler I would make some pods for them and blend them in at the bottom of the a pillar trim.

How do you get the covers up from the windscreen? I was under the impression that the whole dash had to be removed or something.

When you say youre running them from the headunit, do you mean using the stock wiring in the doors?

When you switched did you notice much of an improvement from stock speakers in the doors?

The covers should just pop out. When I say run from the head unit I mean they are run on stock wiring and powered by the headunit. Yeah you can really tell the difference. So much more clarity than the standards.

What type of speaker wire would i use do you know? To connect the speakers and tweeters to the crossovers?

Most if not all component speakers come with a cross over box. This means you run the standard speaker wire to the cross over and then from there one wire goes to the mid/bass and another to the tweeter. They is a cross over for each side. You will find that they already supply some cable in the box, they did with mine any ways.

I don't like the idea of mounting them in the existing 'hole' on the dash. This is 'aimed' towards the windscreen whereas tweeters are the one thing that actually needs to be aimed at your ears.

I plan on putting mine in the A Pillar, just at the bottom.

I found an ideal place today, going to mount them in the door air vents. Just sorting out a backing plate.
